PIANO COLLECTION

WHIMSEYS, Revised Edition

This collection of piano solos (the composer's first publication) was originally published in 1971 by Carl Fischer, Inc. NY.  Later the composer reassigned copyright to Willis Music Company.

"Whimseys" are a collection of ten original piano solos that serve to introduce young pianists to the rhythmic and melodic designs employed in 20th Century music.  A performance guide prefacing each piece enables the learner to understand contemporary techniques.  This unique collection of charming pieces is full of whimsy and imagination.  Sufficiently contemporary to hold a young pianists interest with titles such as "Aborigines", "Phantoms", and "Sparklers" will entice better performance."  Denes Agay

THE PERFORMANCE (Commissioned by Clavier Magazine)

"The Performance,"   coaxes our imaginations as well as the work's pentatonicism and modality.  Pentatonicism lends an atmosphere of indirection.  Although the touches of phrygian mode maintains the feel of a tonal center, the whole steps that occur in the leading-tone positions generally keeps us off balance. The result is an aire of searching and wonderment."

"Despite Rosco's reputation for writing and championing modern idioms, her music in this instance is most Romantic. "The Performance" exudes a Romantic-style motivic development and it's harmonies boil down to a kind of Post-Romanticism."  Lynn Freeman Olson, by permission of The Instrumentalist Co.
