ANTICS IN THE ZOO

Theme and  Seven Variations for Piano

"Antics in the Zoo" is a set of seven variations that offer interpretive material that is imaginative and colorful as well as amusing.  The set uses such compositional devices as quartal harmonies, simultaneous mirroring, imitation, parallelism, melodic doubling and retrograde in a tonal context. The variations have sub-titles such as Theme, "Chimpanzees", Variation 1, "Gazelles",  or Variation 4, "Marmoset", or Variation 5, "The Great Apes".  Pianists will enjoy developing characterizations for these interesting animals.

"Gazelles" was selected as a commissioned work for the 1982, 20th Anniversary of the Southwestern Youth Music Festival, Los Angeles, CA.

SOUND WAVES (Official Federation Choice)

Reflections of sounds and echoes are an apt description for "Sound Waves".  Impressionistic in character and mood, the pentatonic patterns five, as a fresh contemporary color.  The reverberation of sound using dynamic contrasts carefully combined with pedaling creates an ideal composition for performance in recitals and competitions.
